01/14/23 - what better way to start the new year than with a personal commitment to health & wellness! the barbaracares foundation kicked off our first annual "new year/healthy you" pilot to encourage residents in at-risk communities to add mammograms to their new year's resolution. the event was hosted at elm grove baptist church where other community service offerings were available onsite as well. we are thankful for community partners and our host sites in the heart of the community. Special thanks to pastor patterson for hosting this event.
02/11/23 - despite the cold bitter weather to start the morning, outreach continues here at barbaracares. we brought out the big tent fitted with the side panels to ensure people were served. Through our mammograms matter health initiative, barbaraCares is committed to expanding access to mammography screenings for communities at risk, underserved, and unable to afford health screenings. the Love Yourself Mammogram Event is one of a series of targeted outreach efforts bringing healthcare to the "doorsteps" of those that need it most. As we celebrate Valentine's and the month of love, we encouraged residents on property to take part in personal self-awareness and self-care through proactive health screenings. special thanks to the morning star prayer center for hosting this community event and for @amwa.fwmd tcu (Texas Christian university) medical students joining as volunteers today.
2/25/23 presenting a special caring conversation during black history month. statistically black women and people of color are more likely to have a late-stage breast cancer diagnosis or have higher mortality rates associated with breast cancer incidents. the barbaracares foundation, host these caring conversations strategically throughout the year in areas of high risk and in underserved communities. the objective is to raise awareness, increase health literacy and allow residents an in-person oppoRTUNITY to speak with local medical professionals about ways to mitigate risks and how to avoid a late-stage diagnosis. The goal is to save lives through preventative measures and through access to care. participants are also provided an oppoRTUNITY to sign up for a free screening onsite. special thanks to elm grove baptist church for again hosting this important community event. The event took place in 76104, which has the lowest life expectancy in the state of texas.
cold weather didn't stop us today! 03/11/23 - our signature outreach program - mammograms matter continues to provide mobile pop-up events throughout the metroplex. in partnership with heavenly gospel chuch and thr (Texas health resources), barbaracares seeks to expand access to care with the aim to address both late-stage breast cancer diagnoses and mortality rates here in tarrant county. special thanks to Pastor mcduffey for allowing space in the community to provide life-saving screenings.
05/06/23 - barbaracares kicked off our annual march for mammograms 5k! this event welcomes people from all over the metroplex to join us in solidarity to raise awareness and funding to support access to free mammography screenings for residents in dfw. the weather was great. turnout was great. the cause was great! special thanks to each vendor, fort worth Fire department and mayor mattie parker for the special recogniTION to our execuTIVE director for his commitment to breast cancer advocacy.
